A palanquin finial is a decorative cap that sits on top of a palanquin pole. Palanquin finials were often used to embellish palanquins that were used to transport kings, nobles, landlords, and priests. The Yali is a mythological creature from Hindu mythology that is often depicted as a chimera of a lion, elephant, and snake. It is also known as Vyala. Yalis are believed to be guardians and protectors that shield temples from threats. They are also associated with heroism and the elemental forces of nature.
