Veerbhadra Repousse Panel (C-006)

A meticulously hammered and chiseled bronze repousse, depicting a large centralised figure of Virabhadra flanked by smaller depictions of Daksha to his right side and Brahmahatya to his left, the upper corners of the plaque are adorned with depictions of Nandi and a Shivalingam, all in repousse.

It was told that Shiva created Virabhadra by thrashing his matted lock in his rage and sorrow due to the self-immolation of Sati Devi. He was said to be tall as heaven and dark as the clouds, with flame-like hair and three burning eyes, wore a garland of skulls and carried various weapons with a thousand arms.
